Long Beach, California - Help Me Help You announced today that the nonprofit organization has received a grant from Albertsons Foundation’s Nourishing Neighbors Program. Help Me Help You was chosen to receive this grant because of its commitment to connecting qualified individuals with existing federal meal programs such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) also known as CalFresh, and Women Infants and Children (WIC).
Help Me Help You serves over 63,000 Long Beach residents in need with free groceries via 11 grocery grab n go locations and Long Beach Food Pantry Delivery, as well as provides free enrollment assistance for essential community programs. This grant will ensure residents in need can access free healthy food services including benefits to buy groceries, education, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to healthcare and other community services.
“This generous donation from Albertsons Foundation’s Nourishing Neighbors Program will assist Help Me Help You to address hunger issues in our community by connecting individuals in need with federal meal programs and help to ensure our neighbors have enough to food to put on their tables,” said Zina Washington, Help Me Help You Executive Director.
As a community non-profit organization, established in 2002, Help Me Help You is dedicated to improving the lives of residents in need by providing services to reduce hunger and poverty, improve nutrition and health, boost family economic security, and ultimately motivate and transition lives from poverty to self-sufficiency.
Nourishing Neighbors is a charitable program of Albertsons Foundation and seeks to ensure at-risk children, adults, seniors and families have access to the food they need to thrive. More than 150 local food banks and community organizations, such as Help Me Help You, will receive Nourishing Neighbors grants so they can conduct outreach and provide SNAP and WIC enrollment support for neighbors in need. Additionally, Albertsons offers online SNAP access and educational information in all stores.
